RTO officer among 3 killed in road accidents in Odisha

Jajpur/Rayagada: An officer-in-charge of Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Jajpur town and two others were killed in separate road accidents in Odisha.

According to reports, Manoj Behera, the deceased official, was hit by a speeding Hyva truck from behind near Chandpur under Panikoili police limits in Jajpur in the wee hours of Monday while he was inspecting vehicles on the National Highway. Behera died on the spot.

“A case has been registered into the incident. The driver of the truck has been detained for interrogation,” said Charan Singh Meena, Jajpur SP.

In a separate road mishap, two youths died and another sustained critical injuries after a bike on which they were travelling collided head-on with a car near Thirubali bridge in Rayagada district late last night. The deceased were identified as Sanjay Huika and Tuna Kadraka of Buriguda village.

The injured one has been admitted to the Rayagada district headquarters hospital for treatment. The driver of the car fled the spot soon after the accident.

Meanwhile, locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. Police have started investigation into the incident.
