Bhubaneswar, Mar 20:

Odisha government has decided to transform the 9.3 km-long Sachivalaya Marg into smart road in the smart city Bhubaneswar.

The blue print has been prepared for the Rs 300 crore-project. The target has been set to complete the project within a year.

The BDA has been assigned to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and design for the proposed project. As the Sachivalaya Marg — from Acharya Vihar to Airport square — is not coming under smart city, the government has decided to hand over the project to Public Works department for the renovation work of the road.

The Janpath — from Vani Vihar to Sishu Bhawan square — will be made the smart Janpath for the commuters in the city. Later, it will be expanded from Acharya Vihar to Airport square, said a senior official in Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).

These two roads will be projected as the prime road of Odisha capital for which the blue print has been prepared, he added.

The discussion is underway with many departments to deal with the challenges including underground cabling and sewerage line. The PWD is planning to construct two flyovers on these roads.

Notably, the location at Sachivalaya Marg is the hub of many important offices including Odisha Legislative Assembly, State Secretariat and cultural programme centres like Rabindra Mandap, Utkal Mandap and Jayadev Bhawan in the city.

Similarly, the places like Indira Gandhi Park, BDA city centre, Regional Science Centre are also situated at Sachivalaya Marg. Special attention will be laid on the beautification work and other systems for public in the project, sources said.
