Bhubaneswar: With a section of media circulating false news regarding senior officials of Sambad Group dodging Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for questioning, GM (HR) Baijayanti Kar today reacted sharply to reports of a TV channel that claimed that she has absconded in the wake of probe against the media organisation.

“TV channels should not broadcast fake news to serve their vested interest. This will affect the credibility of media as a whole among the people. TV channels should stick to the principle of objectivity,” Kar said.

Kar claimed that Sambad Group has furnished all documents to the EOW. “We are fully cooperating with the EOW in its probe. No one should broadcast or circulate fake news on me and Sambad Group,” she added.

Earlier in the day, Nandighosh TV had claimed that Kar has absconded following the registration of a case against Sambad Group by the EOW.

According to reports, the EOW of Odisha Police had registered a case against Sambad Group under Sections 506, 467, 468, 471, 420 and 120 (b) of the IPC as per a complaint lodged by a former employee of the media house.

The EOW earlier questioned Sambad Group CEO and Publisher Kamalakanta Mahapatra in connection with the case.

The case was registered against Sambad Group a few days after its Editor Soumya Ranjan Patnaik penned two editorials raising certain issues regarding the chopper rides of 5T secretary VK Pandian and the governance model in Odisha.
