Nuakhai and Ganesh Puja celebrations will not be a low key affair for state government employees of this western Odisha town as striking lawyers have decided to allow accounts sections of all government offices to function normally on September 6 and 7 for disbursing salaries to employees.
But there is a catch. “Only the accounts section of all the government offices would be allowed to function normally on September 6 and 7 to make payments to the employees before the Nuakhai festival. All other government offices will however, remain closed” informed former president of Sambalpur bar association Dr Pramod Rath.
In view of the forthcoming important festivals Nuankhai and Ganesh Puja, the action committee of the Sambalpur bar association has decided to allow Sambalpur Municipality office, Burla and Hirakud NAC offices to function normally.
“If these offices are closed, sanitation of the three towns would go to hell and residents would suffer amidst unhygienic condition,” the action committee felt and decided to exempt them from the closure.
The lawyers’ strike in western Odisha demanding a High Court bench in this region has crippled the entire administrative machinery with government offices remaining closed since August 20, inconveniencing the ordinary common man.
