Sandalwood worth Rs 1 crore seized in Odisha

In a major haul, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel seized over two tonnes of red sandalwood worth over Rs 1 crore from Rayagada railway station in Odisha in the wee hours today.

sandalwood seizedAccording to reports, 19 bundles of red sandalwood were brought in a van and later unloaded at the railway station at about 5.30 AM.

RPF personnel on duty opened the bundles on suspicion and found red sandalwood inside.

As no one turned up to take the sandalwood till evening, the RPF personnel later handed the seized items to the Forest department.

Following the incident, Forest Ranger Anil Ray rushed to the railway station for an on-the-spot investigation.

It is suspected that the sandalwood is being secretly transported by a well-organised racket in the Samata Express from Gajapati district to New Delhi.

Investigation is on.
