Addressing a press conference at the Bhubaneswar headquarters, Odisha BJP Vice President Samir Mohanty chided Das Burma over the astronomical growth of his wealth and questioned its legitimacy.

“One who took a Rs 13,000 loan to buy a motorbike as recently as in 2003 has become a man of crores within a span of few years. How is this possible? Is it not surprising? He along with his family members own as many as 12 companies across the state,” said Mohanty.

He further went on to accuse that Das Burma received favours from chit fund companies and individuals and made financial gains by exploiting his political clout.

“The Minister used this money to buy property in Bolangir and Sonepur. However, he has not furnished details of these properties in his affidavit filed before the Election Commission during the 2014 elections. He needs to make clarification,” added Mohanty who on April 10 and on April 16 accused Das Burma of taking undue advantage of his governmental position and power for acquiring government land.

Meanwhile, BJD Spokesperson Amar Satapathy defended the minister as expected.

“CBI is investigating the issue. We need to wait until the probe is completed. BJP should present facts when it brings any charge against someone. Politicizing every possible issue won’t help,” Satapathy said.
