Sarathi Baba bail plea hearing deferred to Nov 26

Disgraced self proclaimed godman Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Kumar Raul had to return dejected on Wednesday as the hearing on his bail plea in the case pertaining to a complaint by a young woman of Haldidiha against him could not be taken up at the district judge court here as the Odisha Crime Branch police failed to produce the case diary (CD).

The court has fixed the next date of hearing in the matter for November 26.

After district judge court here rejected Sarathi Baba’s bail application on October 10, the hearing in the matter was scheduled for November 18.

Following the arrest of Sarathi Baba by Crime Branch on August 7, the said young woman from Haldidiha had complained before the court on August 22 that Sarathi Baba had defrauded her of her ornaments and cash with a promise to get her married.  After her recording of her statement before a magistrate at the Kendrapara court a case was filed against Sarathi Baba under sections 120(B), 420, 354, 506 and 34 of the IPC (GR Case No. 1062/2015).

Hearing on Sarathi Baba’s bail application in the concerned case was scheduled for October 16, on that day Crime Branch had produced Sarathi Baba at the SDJM court here. However, his bail plea was rejected by SDJM Pritish Kumar Routray. On that day anti-Sarathi Baba protestors had pulled the towel of the Baba and had lobbed blows at the vehicle carrying him.

After rejection of his bail plea at the SDJM court on October 16, the matter was scheduled for nearing at the district judge court here on Wednesday.
