Sardar Rajas admission row: SC refuses to stay Odisha HC order

Hearing a SLP (Special Leave Petition) filed by students of three medical colleges of Odisha (VIMSAR, MKCG & Hi Tech), the Supreme Court today refused to stay the High Court order that allows students of Sardar Rajas Medical College to take admission in other government colleges of the state.

The court instead advised the students to appeal in the Odisha High Court as soon as possible. Next hearing of the petition has been scheduled on January 5.

Notably, the students had moved the apex court challenging the High Court’s order that asked the state government to facilitate admission of Sardar Rajas medical college students in two government and three private medical colleges. The students had also filed a misc case in the High Court seeking to put a stay order on its earlier decision.

On the other hand, the two-day long online registration process for the admission of Jaring based Sardar Rajas Medical College and Hospital was completed today. Admission will be done based on AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test) ranking on December 22 and 23 and the students will have to report to their new colleges between December 24 and 30.

Out of the 124 students of the college; 55 would be relocated to Berhampur based MKCG Medical College and Hospital, another 54 to Burla based Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, and the remaining 15 students would be admitted to Bhubaneswar based private medical colleges such as Hi Tech Medical College, KIIMS and Institute of Medical Sciences and Sum Hospital.

While the admission of students for MKCG and Hi Tech will be held on December 22, the admission in VIMSAR, KIIMS and SUM will be held on December 23, as per a notification issued by DMET (Directorate of Medical Education & Training).
