Kendrapada, Jun 13:

BJP activists today staged a road blockade at Patrapur on Cuttack-Chandabali road demanding arrest of the accused in the Singiri sarpanch Chitrasen Das murder case in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.

They also demanded a Crime Branch probe into the incident, sources said. As a result of the roadblock, hundreds of vehicles remained stranded for more than an hour on both sides of the road, sources added.

The blockade was withdrawn after Aul tehsildar and Pattamundai SDPO reached the spot and assured the agitators that the accused would be arrested soon.

“Police are yet to arrest any accused even after six days of the incident. Protesting the inefficiency of police, we have staged a road blockade today. We demand a Crime Branch probe into the incident,” said Brajasundar Bhuyan, Kendrapada district BJP vice president.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the culprits have fled to neighbouring states after the incident. A police team has been engaged to nab them from these states,” Pattamundai SDPO Kedarnath Sahu said.

It may be recalled that Das was beaten to death by unidentified miscreants near Chandibazaar Chhak under Aul police limits in Kendrapara on June 8. Following mass outrage over the incident, Kendrapada SP had transferred Aul police station IIC Nilakantha Patra .

The police official was earlier informed by Das regarding risk at his life. However, police failed to provide him security.

The family members of the deceased have lodged police complaint against Patra and 6 others.
