Satyajit Mohanty to take charge as new Twin City police commissioner tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Satyajit Mohanty will assume charge as the new Commissioner of Police of Twin City Cuttack and Bhubaneswar tomorrow (August 03), official sources said today.

Mohanty will take over the rein from Khurania at 11.30 am at headquarters of Commissionerate of Police in the city.

Mohanty, a 1988 batch IPS officer, will replace Y B Khurania, who has been transferred as ADG Provisioning. Mohanty was earlier in charge of Provisioning.

He will be the sixth Police Commissioner of the Twin City.

The change of guard came in the backdrop of a spurt in crimes like theft, burglary, murder, rape, molestation among others. Besides, circulation of obscene videos on social media has also emerged as a challenge for the city cops.

The commissionerate police system was launched in the twin cities in 2008.  Now, Bhubaneswar has 22 police stations as against 16 then. Cuttack has 21 police stations.
In 2020, the Commissionerate Police will present a vision document to the state government which will inculcate all the requirements, technical and otherwise, of the police force.
