Saviour doc accused of torturing pregnant tribal girl in Odisha

A lady doctor in Odisha’s Kandhamal district has been accused of torturing a pregnant tribal girl she had given shelter in her home.

AYUSH doctor Ambika Mohapatra, who gave her shelter, took care of her and was even willing to adopt her child, is in trouble after the complaint of torture was filed by the girl’s family

The girl from Dimiriguha village under Dadaki Grampanchayat of Phulbani block just four months away from delivery, is still reluctant to disclose the name of the man who made her pregnant.

The lady doctor had apparently gone on leave for three days after locking the girl inside. Even though she had arranged for the food and other basic amenities for the girl, the landlord of the house somehow came to know of it.

The dcotor has dismissed the change of torture levelled against her.

“This is a plot by the ASHA worker to skim me off some money. She had asked me for money, which I never paid,” said the doctor Ambika Mohapatra.

The district administration, on the other hand, has assured an investigation into the pregnancy and action against the doctor for abusing the girl if she is found guilty.
