SC asks Odisha to fix date for Lokayukta appointment

Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court today asked the Odisha Government to fix a date for appointment of Lokayukta in the state. The apex court also directed the Chief Secretary to appear before it in this regard.

The court rejected the state government’s plea of allowing it an additional time of three months for Lokayukta appointment.

The government was earlier asked by the court on July 10 to complete the appointment process within two months.

Odisha was the first state to pass the Lokayukta Bill on February 14, 2014, after the Lokpal Bill was cleared by Parliament in December, 2013.
