SC hearing on Odisha’s Srimandir reforms deferred

Bhubaneswar: The hearing of the Supreme Court on the reforms of Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri was today deferred by four weeks as amicus curiae Gopal Subramanium sought the amount of time to submit report, informed Subhransu Padhi, counsel of the petitioner.

Subramanium is scheduled to visit the temple during the second week of this month for examination of the shrine. He will submit a report in this regard, after which the hearing will be held.

On the other hand, the three-member committee constituted by the Odisha Government to study the management schemes in other important shrines submitted its report to the apex court yesterday. The government had formed the panel as per the direction of the court.

The committee visited Tirupati, Akshardham and other major shrines of the country and interacted with the management authorities of these shrines. The panel has suggested separate queues of darshan for differently-abled, women and senior citizens.
