SC junks Mahima Mishra’s bail granted by Odisha HC

Bhubaneswar: In a major jolt to industrialist and Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL) managing director Mahimananda Mishra aka Mahima Mishra, the Supreme Court today junked the bail granted to him by the Orissa High Court.

The Odisha government had moved the apex court seeking scrapping of the bail granted to Mishra by the lower court. Hearing the plea, the Supreme Court today scrapped the bail.

Notably, the High Court had on July 16 granted Mishra conditional bail in two cases. The bail was granted in connection with Press Chhak bomb hurling and Paradeep Tarinigada firing cases against two sureties of Rs 1 lakh each.

On September 21, 2013, some miscreants had opened fire and hurled bombs at lawyer Abhay Bhatt near Press Chhak in Cuttack. Similarly, in May, 2016, miscreants had opened fire at two youths at Tarinigada in Paradip. The OSL chief was arrested and sent to Choudwar jail in both the cases.
