The directive of the Supreme Court for conditional admission in Sardar Raja Medical College and Hospital at Jaring this year has come as a great relief for the people of Kalahandi district of Odisha.

It may be mentioned that the Medical Council of India (MCI) had cancelled  admissions here for the 2014-15 session citing lack of adequate infrastructure in the college.

The Council had, however, allowed admission for 100 seats in the Medical College in 2013-14.

Challenging the MCI order, the authorities of the Medical College and Hospital had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court.

Hearing the writ petition on Thursday, the apex court ordered admission process in the medical college and hospital to begin with immediate effect.

The court, while directing the MCI to visit the medical college within three months, also asked the concerned authorities of the medical college to fulfil all infrastructure requirements as per the suggestions of the MCI.
