SC orders mediation to settle Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday ordered mediation to settle the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid Ayodhya title dispute case by a three-member panel.

As per the directive, the court-appointed panel will work for a ‘permanent solution’.

The apex court appointed Justice Khaliifulah (Retd) as chairman for the panel, which will also comprise Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu.

Hearing the case, the court said that the mediation proceedings should be held on-camera in Faizabad.

However, the reporting of the mediation proceedings in media will be banned.

As per the apex court’s order, the court-monitored mediation proceedings will be confidential. The mediation process has to start within four weeks and to be completed within eight weeks.

The mediators can co-opt more on the panel if necessary.

The court directed Uttar Pradesh government to provide mediators all the facilities in Faizabad.
