Almost all places in Odisha were in the grip of an intense heat wave today with Hirakud being the hottest place in the state with 43.8 degree Celsius.
While Bhawanipatna and Titlagarh came second with 43.5 degree each, temperature soared up to 40 degree and above in Chandbali (40.8), Bhubaneswar (40.8), Angul (43.1), Jharsuguda (42.6), Keonjhargarh (40), Sambalpur (43.4), Sundargarh (40), Talcher (43.3), Bolangir (43.1), Phulbani (40.4), Malkangiri (41), Sonepur (42.6) and Dhenkanal (40.4).
In a release here, the local Met office has predicted that barring rain or thundershower at one or two places in the coastal districts in the next 24 hours, heat wave will continue in most parts of the state up to May 3.
