The State Election Commission (SEC) today announced dates for elections to nine urban local bodies (ULBs) in Odisha.
Elections will be held for Balimela, Sunabeda, Dharmagarh, Tusra, Daspalla, Ranpur, Redhakhol, Paradip and Belpahar ULBs on April 7.
While counting will begin at 8 AM on April 8, the results will be announced later in the day.
With the announcement of poll dates, the model code of conduct has come into force in these areas.
Announcing this at a press briefing here, SEC Rabi Narayan Nanda said the polling will be held from 8 AM to 5 PM.
He said of the nine ULBs, Dharmagarh, Tusra, Daspalla and Ranpur are the newly formed ULBs where general elections will held for the first time.
The other five old ULBs where elections will be held are Paradip Municipality, Sunabeda Municipality, Belpahar Municipality, Balimela NAC and Redhakhol NAC.
While the term of Paradip, Sunabeda and Belpahar municipalities and Balimela NAC will expire on April 16, 2015, the term of Redhakhol NAC will end on May 5, 2015, Nanda said.
An election officer has been appointed for each ULB. These election officers will issue notices for the holding of elections on March 10. While March 16 has been kept as the starting date for issue of nominations, the last date for submission of nominations has been kept for March 20.
Nominations received within the period will be displayed on the notice board of the respective offices of the election officers.
Similarly, March 23 has been kept for scrutiny of nominations. Publication of list of validly nominated candidates will be done by the respective election officers by 11 AM on March 24.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been kept for March 26 by 3 PM while the final list of candidates would be published on March 26 by 5 PM, the SEC informed.
