Second wave of COVID-19 infections likely in Odisha; cases may rise in winter

Bhubaneswar: The number of COVID-19 cases may increase in coming days with drop in temperature and humidity, said Institute of Life Science (ILS) Director Ajay Parida.

“In many cases it has been found that the number of cases are increasing in winter. If proper precautions are not taken, then the infection can spread in coming days,” Parida added.

“Currently the number of cases are decreasing in the state with around 1500 cases are being reported daily in the last couple of days. Though it was expected that the cases would increase during festive season, the number of infections was controlled due to people’s cooperation and preparedness,” he said.

The ILS Director further cautioned that Odisha is also witnessing reinfected cases. However, the number is less as compared to other states. So far, three to four people have tested positive for the virus for the second time.

Moreover, there is a possibility of second wave of the infection in the state. And, people need to be very careful, said Parida.

Meanwhile, the state Government has initiated the process for preparation of a database of healthcare workers and Anganwadi workers for COVID-19 vaccination.
