Section 144 imposed in Odisha’s Bhadrak ahead of Ram Navami

Bhadrak: Anticipating law and order situation in Bhadrak ahead of Ram Navami celebrations, the district administration today imposed Section 144 in the coastal Odisha town, which was ravaged by communal violence last year leaving many homeless and turning some business establishments into ashes.

Confirming the news, Bhadrak Collector Gyana Das Section 144 imposed in Bhadrak for indefinite period pertaining to law and order situation ahead of Ram Navami celebrations.

The prohibitory order under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code has been imposed from 6 pm today to an indefinite period, he said.

Besides, armed forces deployed in the town to maintain law and order if there will be any such incidents occuer during the auspicious occasion.

Earlier, it was decised that Ram Navami celebrations was supposed to begin from today and will continue till 25th of this month.

Notably, more than 30 persons were arrested following communal unrest during a Ram Navami procession on April 5 last year. The violence erupted after a group of people posted offensive remarks on Hindu deities on Facebook.
