Security beefed up across Odisha ahead of Independence Day

In the wake of Left Wing Extremism (LWE) and terrorist threats, security arrangements have been beefed up across Odisha ahead of 70th Independence Day celebrations.

According to the police, high alert has been issued across the state and combing operations have been intensified in Maoist infested areas to avoid any untoward incident.

Speaking to reporters, Odisha Police DG KB Singh assured that adequate security measures have been taken to ensure an incident free event.

In Bhubaneswar, CCTVs have been set up across key junctions of the city and at the event venue of state level celebration. As many as 50 CCTVs have been set up to monitor the road connecting Master Canteen with Rabindra Mandap. Three control rooms have also been set up to monitor traffic and other activities on the roads, said the police.

“We have taken adequate security arrangements for the event. Special arrangements have been made to manage crowd, traffic, parking and VIP security. We have also taken necessary precautions to counter terrorists and Maoist threats,” said police DG KB Singh.

“The DCP will supervise the operations here. Besides, seven ACPs, about 50 inspectors, about 150 sub-inspectors and 35 platoons of forces will be deployed to ensure an incident free event. Further, two Quick Response Team (QRT) teams and Special Operations Group (SOG) will also be deployed,” he added.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would hoist the tricolor and take the ceremonial salute at the state level ceremony here.
