Security during IPL matches at Barabati reviewed

Bhubaneswar, May 2:

A preparatory meeting was held at the Commissionerate police conference hall today to discuss the security arrangements in connection with the forthcoming IPL matches to be played in Odisha.

The two matches would be played  at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on May 7 and 11.

The meeting was presided over by Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma along with DCPs of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, ACPs and Inspectors of concerned police stations, including Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) officials, representatives of IPL management, Airport authority and Hotel Mayfair Lagoon.

DCPs of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack discussed the security arrangements to be made during the arrival of the cricketers, their place of stay and road journey here to the  Barabati Stadium in Cuttack and back.  30-35 platoons of police force will be deployed to guards the IPL players, celebrities and keep round-the-clock vigil on the stadium to prevent any untoward incident.

Since there will be heavy flow of vehicular traffic near the stadium, adequate arrangements shall be made for parking and smooth flow of vehicular traffic on the day of matches.

Arrangements like sale of tickets and facilities to be provided by OCA to the spectators, including drinking water, first aid etc, were also discussed at the meeting, OCA secretary Asirbad Behera said. Besides, CCTV cameras would be installed at strategic points, he added.

The CP requested all concerned to extend their full cooperation to make both the match incident free and ensure foolproof security to the teams and spectators in general.
