Self-styled godman rapes woman in Odisha’s Jajpur

Bhubaneswar: A married woman of the state capital was allegedly raped by a self-styled godman in Jajpur district.

Police started investigation into the incident following complaint lodged by the victim here.

According to reports, the victim belongs to Sharadhapalli slum under Khandagiri police limits. She has no child even after many years of marriage. Few days ago, she had visited CRP square to buy medicines where she met a person, identified as Prafulla Panda, who advised her to meet the self styled godman in Jajpur to be blessed with a child.

With help of Panda, the woman reached at Panikoili square in Jajpur district where arrangement has been made for her accommodation in a hotel.

The self-styled godman along with his associates arrived in the hotel at around 12 am. They forced her to be naked for a kind of ritual to get blessing of motherhood. When she opposed, the Baba and his associates raped her in the hotel.

The victim alleged that the accused have shot the rape scene on their mobile phone.

A case has been registered on basis of allegation made by the victim. The woman underwent medical examination in the Capital Hospital.

Police recorded the statement of the victim under sections 161 and 164 of CrPC.
