New Delhi/ Puri, May 1
Swami Adhokshjanand, who was in news several years ago when he tried in vain to claim the position of Shankaracharya of Govardhan Peeth in Puri, today said he would persuade religious leaders in Varanasi to oppose Narendra Modi “because he was responsible for the 2002 riots in Gujarat.”
The self-styled ‘Shankaracharya’, known for his pranks to stay in limelight, claimed Modi was trying to mislead the people in Varanasi and said he will oppose him because the Gujarat chief minister believes in dividing people.
He also accused RSS of doing politics under the garb of a social-cultural body.
The self styled seer also demanded that the restrictions imposed on Azam Khan by the Election Commission should be lifted.
Adhokshjanand held the press briefing at the residence of SP MP Chaudhary Munavver Saleem who claimed unlike Gujarat, the UP government had done its best to stop the Muzaffarnagar riots.
However, people in the know of things were amused that Adhoksjanand still claims to have been the Shankaracharya of Puri, a position held by Swami Nischalanand Saraswati for over a decade.
