The deceased, identified as Shiv Narayan Mishra, additional vice president (AVP) of Mangilal Rungta Ltd at Meramundali in Dhenkanal district, was on his way to his workplace when around eight assailants waylaid him barely 500 metre before the plant near Motanga village at around 9 am. They pulled him out of the vehicle and attacked him brutally with iron rods and sticks.

The miscreants fled the scene after committing the crime.

A profusely bleeding Mishra was rescued by staff of the company and some locals who rushed him to a nearby hospital before shifting him to a private hospital in Cuttack. But all efforts to save him went in vain as he succumbed to his injuries.

“Some employees of the company beat him with iron rods mercilessly and he has revealed names of two persons before dying. We have detained them and questioning is on,” Dhenkanal SDPO, Rajkishore Dora said.

“I got a message from the security personnel that Shiv Narayan Mishra has been attacked by some assailants. When I reached the spot I came to know that the security staff has taken him to Meramundali hospital for first-aid. After giving him initial treatment, he was rushed to Cuttack,” AGM (HR), Himanshu Behera said.

“He was liked by everybody including family, friends and staff. He was a very loving person. But, a few people could not realise this,” brother of deceased, Sudhanshu Narayan Mishra said.

It may be mentioned that the production at the ferro alloys unit was suspended almost two years ago and the employees who had lost their jobs had been pressing for its restart of the unit and their reinstatement. It is suspected that some disgruntled employees could have attacked him.

Meanwhile, police have detained two suspects from Motanga village for questioning and launched an inquiry into the incident.
