Sambalpur, May 15:

Well-known Ollywood actor Shantiswrup Mishra alias Tiku and his friend were shot at by an unidentified person at the former’s house in Odisha’s Sambalpur city on Thursday night.

Shantiswarup MishraMishra, who sustained grievous injuries in the attack, was first rushed to VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla from where he was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition became critical.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the incident was the fallout of a land dispute, police said.

Talking to the newsmen, Mishra’s friend Nitya Sundar Patnaik said he was in a meeting with Mishra at his room when a youth suddenly barged into the room and fired one round at him and two rounds at Mishra.

The incident took place at about 8.30 PM.

“My father-in-law was doing some of his official work with his friend in his room and we were watching TV in another room when a youth suddenly entered the house and opened three rounds of fire at him and his friend. After hearing the gunshots, I ran into his room. Seeing me, he ran away from the house. I followed him and shouted for help. But by the time, the youth had gone away,” said Priyanka Mishra, daughter-in-law of Mishra.

Sambalpur SDPO Utkal Keshari Das said as per the X-Ray report, Mishra has sustained two bullet injuries while his friend Nitya Sundar has one bullet injury.

Though the SDPO did not divulge details, he did say that the incident was an outcome of a long-drawn land dispute.

“We have found three bullets which have hit the chest, neck and lungs of Mishra. Since we don’t have the facilities for the required surgery here, we have referred him to SCB Medical College and Hospital,” said Dr Amiya Pal of VSS Medical College and Hospital.

It may be mentioned that the 60-year-old Mishra had acted in three Odia movies—Mana Akasha, Krushna Sudama and Bandhu Mohanty.
