Senior Odisha journalist Gobinda Das passes away

Veteran Odisha journalist and former executive editor of Odia daily Prajatantra, Gobinda Das passed away at his Tulasipur residence here on Saturday night.

He was 82 and is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Das, who was suffering from protracted illness, passed away at 11.45 PM, on Saturday, family members said.

Born at Amrutamanohi village of Pattamundai block in Kendrapara district, Das took up journalism as his profession after completing his post graduation from Ravenshaw College.

He was also a member of the editorial board of monthly Odia literary magazine ‘Jhankara’.

Das also worked in the news section of Akashvani, Cuttack. He was also associated with the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

Following the news of his death, eminent personalities including Annada Prasad Ray, Dr Rabi Ranjan Sahu, BJD leader Subhas Singh and journalist Bana Bihari Mohanty rushed to his Tulasipur residence to pay their last respect to the departed soul.

Expressing profound grief over the veteran scribe’s death, former Odisha chief minister and Assam governor JB Patnaik, in a message, said Das was a highly educated and well-behaved person.

Patnaik said Das was an esteemed colleague during his stint as the editor of ‘Prajatantra’.
