Sense of caring and sharing should be renewed: Kovind

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday called for reviving the sense of “caring and sharing” in big cities and to strive to make a “gentler and happier society”.

In his address to the nation on 71st Independence Day, the President recalled his childhood days when the entire village would share the responsibility and contribute if there was a wedding in any one family, regardless of the caste or community.

“There was a sense of caring and sharing, and of interdependence. If you helped your neighbours in their times of need, they instinctively helped you in return,” he said.

“Today, in big cities we may not even know our neighbours. Whether in cities or villages, it is important to renew that sense of caring and sharing. This will make us a gentler and happier society and help us understand each other with greater empathy,” he said. (IANS)
