Sex racket busted in Odisha capital; two arrested

Commissionerate Police has busted a sex racket running from a rented house in Sahid Nagar area of Odisha capital and has arrested two young customers during the raid.

Acting on a tipoff, Sahid Nagar police raided a house in Sahid Nagar area on Friday evening and arrested two young customers while seizing several objectionable articles from the house.  Police has also rescued two girls hailing from Kolkata area from the house.

The rescued girls will be sent to a short stay home, while the arrested youth will be forwarded to court today, police sources said.

The arrested have been identified as Raja Khuntia (22), a resident of Plot No. 292 of GGP Colony under Mancheswar police limits and Asish Pradhan (22) of Daringbadi area in Kandhamal district.

According to the police, the racket had started operating from the house on Plot No. 219-A located near the Akhandalamani temple a few days back. The house which was taken on rent was used for running a sex racket, police said. On the other hand, public suspect the sex racket to be operating from a lodge located on the same plot.

Sources said the operators of the racket used to contact girls from Kolkata area over phone on different pretexts to get them here and then entice them into flesh trade by offering them with lucrative offers.

The operators of the racket used to provide these girls with accommodation, food and a luxurious life at the lodge and then engage them in the trade, sources said. Clients had to pay in advance to enter the premises, they added.

However, police is yet to disclose the identity of the operators of the racket.
