Shattila Ekadashi is observed on the 11th day of the Krishna Paksha during the month of Magh in the Hindi calendar.

The day is dedicated to worshipping Lord Vishnu. Devotees observe a fast on this day.

The day is also known as ‘Magh Krishna Ekadashi’ and ‘Tilda Ekadashi’.

Shattila Ekadashi 2022 Date: January 28, Friday.

Ekadashi Tithi Begins: January 28, 2022 2:16 AM.

Ekadashi Tithi Ends: January 28, 2022 11:36 PM.

Parana Time (Fast Breaking Time): January 29, 7:11 AM – January 29, 9:23 AM.

Rituals: On this day, there is great significance of taking bath in water mixed with sesame seeds (til). Devotees also consume til on this day.

They keep a fast on this day and refrain from eating or drinking.

Partial fasting is also allowed for those who can’t keep complete fast.

There are specific foods to avoid on this day like grains, rice and pulses.

As a part of ritual, statue of Lord Vishnu is bathed in Panchamrit, to which sesame seeds are mixed.

Various offerings are also made to please Lord Vishnu.

Devotees stay awake all night and chant Lord Vishnu’s name with immense devotion. Devotees also organize yagna in some places.

There is a great implication of donating sesame seeds to the poor and hungry on this day.

There is also a custom of offering sesame seeds and water to the forefathers or ancestors.
