Shekhar Gupta resigns as editor-in-chief of India Today group

Editor-in-chief of India Today group Shekhar Gupta resigned today from his post even though he will continue as the editorial adviser to the group, reports in the national media said.

Gupta had resigned as the editor of Indian Express and joined the India Today group only two months ago.

In an email to employees, chairman of the India Today Group, Aroon Purie wrote, “Shekhar has spent the last two months getting to know the organization, and we him. After much thought and discussion, we have decided to restructure our arrangement to our mutual benefit…From today, I will resume the responsibilities of editor-in-chief and he will be Editorial Adviser to the India Today Group even as he pursues his creative and entrepreneurial interests.”

A report in the India Today called the move as a revamp and restructuring of the organisation. Poorie said Gupta had spent his two months as editor-in-chief getting to know the organisation and both had decided that this move would be beneficial for the group.

“From today, I will resume the responsibilities of Editor-in-Chief and he will be Editorial Advisor to the India Today Group even as he pursues his creative and entrepreneurial interests,” Poorie was quoted as saying by firstpost.com.

“Shekhar, a dear personal friend, remains passionate to the India Today Revamp Project and will support me and the team.”, Purie was quoted as saying.

According to a livemin.com report, speculation is rife that Rajdeep Sardesai, former editor-in-chief at IBN Network, is likely to be appointed as editorial director for the group.
