Shifting of Odisha’s IIT-BBSR to new campus in July

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar will be shifted to its new campus at Aragul on the outskirts of the Odisha capital in July this year.

New campus of IIT-BhubaneswarA decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by chief secretary GC Pati at the State Secretariat here on Friday.

Reviewing the status of the ongoing works at the institute, the chief secretary asked the concerned departments to expedite the works and complete by the end of this month.

Taking note that water supply from the Naraj barrage to the institute and its nearby areas will take more time, Pati asked the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to make alternative arrangement and complete it by the end of April.

The PHED which has taken up a mega water supply project to cater water supply to IIT, NISER and other upcoming institutions in the area, has targeted to complete the work during 2018-19, the meeting revealed.

The chief secretary also asked the director of IIT, Bhubaneswar, Madhusudan Chakraborty to construct roof top rain water harvesting structures on the campus to reduce dependence on ground water.

He also asked the Roads and Buildings department to complete the construction of approach road earlier than the scheduled time frame.

Besides, he also asked the Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) was asked to provide street lighting from NISER square to IIT campus.

It was decided in the meeting that a police outpost will be set up at Aragul near IIT campus for which the chief secretary asked the Home department to locate a suitable place.

Among others, additional chief secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management, Taradatt; principal secretary, Home, J Venugopal; Khordha collector and senior officials of PHED, Energy, Works and Commissionerate Police were present at the meeting.
