“I appeal to all the students today that the Prime Minister has given a clarion call for start-up India. There is also supporting initiative from banks called MUDRA Yojana under the guidance of our Prime Minister which supports individuals who seek to come out with a business opportunity. It offers loans worth Rs 50000 till Rs 10 lakhs without any collateral,” said Irani addressing the convocation ceremony of the premier institute at its campus at Arugul near here.

“IITs are known for innovation. I urge the students to contribute effectively and have their own start-up ventures so that on the next independence day, we can say proudly say that a lot of contribution has been from the IITs to the Start-up India campaign,” she added.

Notably, the Prime Minister had announced the “Start-up India, Stand up India” initiative while addressing the nation on August 15 to promote bank financing for start-ups and offer incentives to boost entrepreneurship and job creation. Under this, in addition to existing systems to facilitate start-ups, loans would also be given to help people from MUDRA (Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency) Bank.

On their graduating day, the students were ecstatic and were proud to be the first batch that graduated from the permanent campus of the IIT.

“Today is the greatest day of my life. It is an honor to identify myself as an alumnus of this premier institute. I want to continue my studies here and pursue a PhD. I hope someday I would become a professor and teach here too,” said a visibly excited student.

It may also be mentioned that IIT-Bhubaneswar yesterday made headlines after becoming the first technical institute in the country to introduce Odissi dance as an elective paper in B Tech curriculum.
