Siblings held in Odisha for duping woman via Paytm

Sambalpur: Police arrested two persons for allegedly looting about Rs 1 lakh from a woman in Ainthapalli locality of Odisha’s district headquarters town Sambalpur today.

The arrested are siblings and have been identified as Pradip Kumar Mandal and Pradyumna Kumar Mandal. They hail from Rampur village under Jamtara police limits in neighbouring Jharkhand, police sources said.

According to police sources, two days back the duo had called up one Kamalini Pujari of Ainthapalli area over the phone from an unknown number.

Identifying themselves as bank officials the duo collected Kamalini’s bank account and ATM details.

Later, they withdrew money from Kamalini’s bank account via e-wallet Paytm in two lots.

While in the first lot the fraudsters had allegedly siphoned off Rs 49,996 from Kamalini’s bank account, in the second lot they had withdrawn Rs 49,799.

Following aforesaid withdrawals from her bank account, Kamalini had lodged a complaint with Ainthapalli police.

Based on Kamalini’s complaint, police had launched its investigations leading to the arrest of the siblings today.
