Similipal wildfire: Leaves of forest personnel cancelled

Baripada: Amidst the Similipal wildfire, leaves of all forest personnel under Baripada Forest Division have been cancelled until further orders.

Informing this, Baripada Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Santosh Joshi said 100 more personnel have been roped in to douse the flames.

Earlier in the day, Sambalpur DFO Sanjeet Kumar announced cash award of Rs 5,000 for giving information about those burning dry leaves leading to wildfire. The official also warned that such persons will be arrested immediately.

As per latest reports, fire incidents have been reported from over 20 points under Udala, Dujura, Bangiriposi, Rasgovindpur forest ranges near Similipal biosphere reserve.

Meanwhile, a man has been arrested while setting dry leaves on fire in Dudhiani forest in the district.
