Six arrested in Odisha RTI activist murder case

Local police today arrested six persons in connection with the murder of a businessman at Golanthara on the outskirts of Brahmapur city in Odisha’s Ganjam district on December 29.

Basant Panda, a businessman hailing from Randha village, was found lying in a pool of blood on December 29 morning on the roadside at Golanthara on the outskirts of Brahmapur city by locals who informed the police.a The cicumstances suggested that he had been murdered by unknown assailants.

Golanthra police and Ganjam ASP Sashibhushan Satpathy had rushed to the spot and had investigated the matter.

During the course of investigation, Rabindra, brother of the deceased, had alleged that his brother could have been murdered by some contractors since he had often complained about the bad quality of work in Randha panchayat and had sought information in this connection under the RTI.

He had alleged that these contractors had been after him for the last one year and had finally murdered him.
