Six criminals arrested in city; arms seized

Bhubaneswar, Aug 27:

The Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Commissionerate Police arrested six criminals with fire arms while they were planning to commit dacoity in the city late on Tuesday night, police revealed today.

The criminals were identified as Sheikh Imran, Ramakanta Behera, Ashish Kumar Behera, Pradip Mohanty, Ramachandra Barik and Sheikh Babu, all of them residents of the city.

According to Saheed Nagar police station IIC Deepak Mishra, while on a special drive to track criminals, fire arm smugglers and looters in the city, QAT spotted the gang members led by Pradip near Tankapani Road here and chased the accused and nabbed them from Saheed Nagar area. Later the team handed over the accused to the local police to take further action against them, he added.

The police team also seized a pistol, a live bullet, a sword, a bhujali and five mobile phones from the possession of the accused, said the IIC.

“We have forwarded all the accused to a local court here today and further investigation is on to ascertain the possible involvement of more people in the gang,” the IIC added.
