Six killed in road accident in Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada, Feb 17:

Six persons, including two children, died on the spot and five others were seriously injured when a speeding truck hit the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling near Kotapeta village in Odisha’s Rayagada district this afternoon.

According to reports, 11 persons of Gadisahkhal village of Kolanara block were on the way to Kotapeta village to attend a marriage ceremony when a speeding cotton laden truck coming from Rayagada rammed into the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling at about 1.30 pm.

While five persons, including two children, died on the spot, another succumbed to his  injuries at the hospital. The six bodies were later sent to the hospital for post mortem.

Following information, a team of police of Chandili police station rushed to the spot and rushed the injured persons to the district headquarters hospital here.

Four critically injured persons have been shifted to a hospital in Vishakhapatnam after their condition deteriorated, Collector Sashi Bhusan Padhi said.

Tension ran high in the area after the mishap as irate villagers staged a road blockade disrupting vehicular traffic.

Armed police force has been deployed at the mishap site to prevent the situation from going out of hand.

The Rayagada sub collector and sub divisional police officer were still trying to persuade the protesters to call of their road blockade when reports last came in.
