Six-year-old branded in Odisha

A six-year-old girl child has been admitted to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Odisha’s Steel City in a critical condition after she was allegedly branded with red hot iron for curing an ailment.

Rajani, the six-year-old daughter of Chaitanya Oram of Budhijharan village under Gurundia police limits in Sundargarh district who was suffering from pain in her stomach on Sunday was taken to a traditional healer where she was  allegedly branded with red hot iron to cure her, reports said.

The healer allegedly branded  the child at 35 places on her body, reports added.

Reports said the child was first rushed to the Sub Divisional Government Hospital at Bonai as her health condition turned critical but had to be later shifted to IGH as her condition further deteriorated.

Police have registered a case against the traditional healer in this connection at the Gurundia police station, reports added.
