Sony moves court against websites streaming FIFA matches

New Delhi, June 20 :

Sony Six, the authorised broadcaster of 2014 football World Cup, Friday knocked the door of the Delhi High Court saying that several websites are interfering with its exclusive rights to stream matches of the international event on internet.

Sony SixIndian company Multi Screen Media (MSM) Satellite Pvt. Ltd., which owns Sony Six, told a bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Sunita Gupta that it is the authorised broadcaster of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in the Indian subcontinent and holds exclusive rights for telecast as well streaming the matches.

MSM, which was earlier known as Sony Entertainment Television India Pvt. Ltd., said in its plea that several websites are interfering with its rights for streaming the matches.

The court has listed the matter for further hearing for June 23.
