Soumya Ranjan visits Khandapada rape victim at SCB

Senior Congress leader and former MP, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik on Saturday visited the tribal minor girl from Kandhamirigi village in Khandapada, a victim of gangrape, recuperating at the ENT ward of SCB Medical College and Hospital here and enquired about her health.

Patnaik, apart from apprising himself of the victim’s treatment and needs, offered financial assistance to her brother Akshay Pradhan.

The former MP during his visit spoke to the hospital’s ENT HoD, Dr Subrat Behera, discussed the victim’s condition and got an assurance of proper treatment to the minor girl.

The minor tribal girl from Khandapada’s Kandhamirigi village in Nayagarh district was gang raped on August 20 last by two men who had slashed the victim’s throat with a sharp weapon after committing the crime. The victim was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition after being given first aid at the Gania health centre.

Patnaik was accompanied by OPCC secretary Mohammad Shakeel, Pradesh Youth Congress secretary Walid Patel, Amiya Ranjan Panda and Imtiaz Khan youth leaders from Kandapada’s Dholamara among others who also met the victim.
