Special wards for unidentified patients at SCB in week

Cuttack: A day after a destitute patient died on premises of the SCB Medical College and Hospital here after being unattended, the hospital authorities today decided to open special wards for unidentified patients at the hospital within a week.

Sources said the wards will be opened in five departments, including surgery, orthopaedic surgery, medicine, obstetrics and paediatrics.

Yesterday, an elderly man died without treatment under a tree in front of the new medicine ward of the premier hospital. Reportedly, he was unattended and lying under the tree for two days.

Earlier in August, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) had recommended the State Government to open a special destitute ward at SCB to provide better healthcare services to the needy.
