Special wing to probe organised crime, drug smuggling in twin city

Bhubaneswar: Day after approving a proposal for establishment of 14 new police stations to probe cyber crime and economic offences in Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced to open a special crime investigation wing for the twin city.

The special crime investigation wing will function under the Commissionerate of Police. As per the decision, the special wing will investigate the organised crime, economic offence and drug smuggling cases in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities.

It will work under the supervision of a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The wing will have 59 police personnel. One Additional DCP, three ACPs, nine Inspectors, 12 Sub-Inspectors, three ASI (Communications), three Constables (Communications) and 27 Constables will be part of the wing.

Also, the Chief Minister approved a proposal for establishment of three new police stations. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the decision for the new police stations has been taken to provide better services in the areas under the Commissionerate of Police amid rise in population.

The three new police stations will come up at Pahala Outpost functioning under Balianta PS, Infovalley Outpost under Jatni PS and Bentakara outpost under Cuttack Sadar PS, the statement mentioned.

Yesterday, the Chief Minister approved creation of 14 cyber crime and economic offence police stations in different police districts.
