SPL-2014: Easy wins for Jadavpur, Ravenshaw varsities

Jadavpur University and Ravenshaw University registered crushing victories on the second day of the SPA Premier League (SPL) at the SOA University stadium here today.

While Jadavpur trounced Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) by 128 runs in a Group-D tie, Ravenshaw thrashed OUAT by 78 runs in Group-C.

Electing to bat, Jadavpur made 204 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs with the aid of half centuries from Akash Basu (55) and Navendu Ghosh (53).

For BPUT, Biswajit Behen captured two wickets conceding 34 runs.
In reply, BPUT lost wickets regularly and folded up for a meagre 76 in 12.2 overs.

Debasis Patra (15) was the top scorer while Anurag Khan (5/13) was the most successful bowler for the winners.

In another match, Ravenshaw University beat OUAT by 78 runs.

Electing to bat, Ravenshaw scored 158 for 9. Srijoy Mohanty (76 not out in 48 balls) and Prayas Thakur (31 off 14 balls) were the top scorers for the Ravenshaw team.

For OUAT, Satyanarayan Tandi bagged three wickets conceding 36 runs.
In reply, OUAT were bundled out for 80 in 15.4 overs with only Rupak Jena offering some resistance with 20.

With this defeat, OUAT are out of the tournament.

In the earlier match played on Sunday evening, Utkal University defeated Vir Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) by eight wickets in Group-B with state under-19 all-rounder Priyatosh Pramanik doing the star turn.

Winning the toss, VSSUT were bowled out for 101 while Utkal reached the target conceding just two wickets.

Pramanik hit 46 off 27 balls (8×4, 1×6) while Soubhagya made 35.

For VSSUT, Kalyan Mallick scored 18 while Asmit Rout (3/20) and Sibananda Dhir (3/28) were the pick of the bowlers.
