Reigning champions SRM University stormed into the semifinal of the 5th SOA Premier League (SPL) inter-university cricket championship with a facile 60 run victory over Vir Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, in their concluding Group-B match at the SOA University stadium here on Wednesday.SPL

Electing to bat, SRM University posted 172 for six in the allotted 20 overs and then bowled out VSSUT for 112.

The SRM total was built around contributions of 55 by Sunny Singh and 51 by Pradeep Kumar. Sujit claimed two wickets conceding 17 runs.

VSSUT did not pose much challenge to their opponents as they crumbled with Kalyan offering some resistance with 30.

Asiq was the best bowler for SRM claiming 3 for seven.

SRM University had defeated Utkal University by 22 runs in their first group tie last night.

With a total of 185 for 5, SRM stopped a determined Utkal 22 runs short of their total.

Asish Kumar (55) and S Dinesh (53) were the main scorers for the visitors while for Utkal, Gourav Mohapatra captured 2 wickets for 18.

Though the Odisha Ranji players Girija Rout and Priyatosh Pramanik score a brisk 62 and 34 respectively, Utkal varsity fell short of the target.

For the winning team, Sunny Singh, Abhishek Talwar and AC Prativan captured two wickets each.
