Amiya Mallick, the new athletic sensation of India, was felicitated on Saturday by Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS at a special function in KIIT University.
The 21-year old sprinter is an MBA student in the School of Management of KIIT University.
Mallick, who has broken 200 m State record of 45 years, will be trained by sprint legend Usain Bolt‘s coach Glen Mills in Jamaica.
He had won the gold medal at the 53rd National Open Senior Athletics Championship in Ranchi clocking an impressive 21.22 seconds. After this stellar performance, the Odisha Olympic Association had contacted Glen Mills in Kingston, Jamaica to train him.
Amiya Mallick is the first Indian to train under the tutelage of a world renowned coach. Not only that, he will also have access to the core group of trainers and physios at Racers, which will help him to nurture and realize his immense potential.
Mallick, who is presently ranked 32nd in the world, is set to travel to Jamaica in the next two weeks.
While felicitating the star sprinter, Dr Achyuta Samanta said, KIIT has all long given equal importance to education as well as sports and promoted sports stars like Dutee Chand (athletics), Aparajita Gochhikar (chess) and many others.
