Spurious BP medicine case in Cuttack: Two accused surrender before Purighat police

Cuttack: Two persons today surrendered before the Purighat police in connection with their alleged involvement in the sale of spurious Blood Pressure medicines (Telma 40) in the city.

The accused have been identified as Sanjay Jalal and Rahul Syal. The two are likely to be questioned by the cops over the offence.

The Drugs Controller had earlier lodged an FIR in this regard with the police.

On the other hand, police today raided Puja Enterprises and VR Drug Agencies, drug wholesale points in Manik Ghosh Bazar here, in connection with the case.

A team of Directorate of Drugs Control had also raided the two places and inspected the stock of the BP medicines, which were allegedly manufactured and sold by a fake pharmaceutical company in the name of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

While VR Enterprisers had availed the stock from Bengaluru, Puja Enterprises got it from Patna. Samples of the medicine were sent to State Drugs Testing Laboratory for examination.

The Cuttack District Chemist and Druggist Association has cancelled the memberships of the two drug distributors– Puja Enterprises and VR Drug Agencies.
