Spurt in Covid-19 cases in this Yaas-hit gram panchayat of Odisha

Jagatsinghpur: It’s a double whammy for residents of Gadaharispur gram panchayat under Erasama block of Jagatsinghpur district. Following their return from cyclone shelters, many villagers of Gadaharispur gram panchayat complained of fever, cold and cough. When tests were conducted by the district administration, many villagers were found to be Covid-19 positive.

As the Cyclone Yaas battered Gadaharispur, Asia and Garia villages of the gram panchayat, detection of many Covid-19 positive cases became another setback for the villagers.

Today, Jagatsinghpur District Collector Sangram Keshari Mohapatra declared the Gadaharispur gram panchayat as a containment zone for active contact tracing and strict surveillance. The containment restrictions will be in force till June 4, 2021.

As per the District Collector’s order, movement of vehicles, public transport and personnel will be stopped. All the inhabitants of the panchayat will strictly remain in home. Shopping establishments shall be closed immediately.

Also, government and private institutions in the panchayat will remain closed.

The Collector asked the BDO of Erasama block to ensure containment restrictions remain in force with immediate effect.

If anyone violates the containment order, action will be taken against the concerned person under Disaster Management Act 2005 and Sec 188 of IPC, the order mentioned.
