Sr Men’s National Hockey: UP beat Odisha 5-2

Hosts Uttar Pradesh began their campaign on a winning note by defeating Odisha by 5-2 goals on the opening day of the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division-A) played at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium at Lucknow today.Hockey

Uttar Pradesh dominated the first half with a 2-0 goal lead. The goals were scored by Amir Khan in the 10th minute and Diwakar Ram through a penalty corner in the 33rd minute.

Going into the second half, Uttar Pradesh continued its dominance by keeping the opponents under pressure by their attacking game.

In the 44th minute, the hosts scored the third goal through Ajit Pandey.

However, Amon Mirash Tirkey of Hockey Odisha scored the first goal in the 48th minute.

But the hosts increased their lead when Diwarkar Ram scored the fourth goal in the 54th minute.

Though Hockey Odisha reduced the margin with Joseph Toppo scoring the second goal for his team in the 61st minute, it was Diwakar again who scored the fifth goal in the 64th minute.
