Odisha Vigilance today caught red-handed Binod Das, principal of Nayagarh Police Training School (NPTS), while he was taking a bribe of Rs 75,000 at his official quarters here from mess in-charge of the school Assistant Sub Inspector Rama Krushna Satpathy.

Das was caught red handed and arrested on charges of accepting illegal gratification during a joint raid by Vigilance teams of Nayagarh, Khordha, and Bhubaneswar said an official of the Vigilance department.

He has been brought to Bhubaneswar after his arrest; prior to his posting as the principal of the NPTS he had served as the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) in Bhubaneswar.

Simultaneous raids are also being conducted at the official residence and ancestral house in Chandapura in Jagatsinghpur district, sources revealed.

“Binod Das, principal of NTPS had sought a bribe of Rs one lakh every month from the mess in-charge of the school. When he refused to do so, Das threatened to transfer him elsewhere. Finally, after agreeing to pay a bribe of Rs 75,000, the mess-in-charge reported the matter to us. Today, in a joint raid by our department officials from Nayagarh, Khordha and Bhubaneswar we caught him red handed at his official quarters while he was accepting the bribe of Rs 75,000 from the mess-in-charge,” informed Harmohan Pati, DSP Vigilance, Nayagarh.
